No matter what may be officially stated, the reality for leaders is that performance results are not the only measure of leadership effectiveness. In fact, results are a necessary but insufficient condition for successful leadership. This is because if stakeholders aren’t involved with the change process, the resultant strain on people in (and outside of) the organization undermines even the best results - and gains are not sustainable. As the African proverbs observes, “if you wanna go fast go alone; if you wanna go far go together.“ This is why the most effective leaders are not only skilled at knowing what it takes to achieve results; they are also masters at building “coalitions of the willing.” Leadership, in effect, means inspiring individuals, teams and partners to do that which they otherwise would not (or could not) do. Seasoned leaders move systems forward by collaboratively mobilizing teams to accomplish integrated tasks, enacting collective expertise and mutual - which sounds simple, but can be difficult to achieve. #LeadWithCollaboration
