DISTRIBUTE.

Since the sports docuseries "The Last Dance" aired in 2020, most people, even folks that never watched basketball, are now familiar with the Chicago Bulls franchise success in the 1990s. But “true”90s basketball fans (lol) will also remember the Utah Jazz and legendary point guard, John Stockton. Stockton, who still holds the all time assist record at over 15k, with Chris Paul (currently) still at a distant 3rd approaching 12k, was renowned for making his teammates better. From a leadership lens, the purpose of distributing (leadership) is the cultivation of individual opportunity to promote collective achievement. Simply put, leadership humility recognizes that sometimes other team members (by skill or proximity to the work) should lead a particular initiative. Leaders want to put others in the best position to ‘score’ because an individual win is a win for the entire team. Leaders that distribute have a mindset to complement, not compete, and their focus is abundance not scarcity. #LeadByDistribution
