LEADERSHIP LEGACY.

A leader's legacy consists of two questions: (1) who will remember me when I'm gone, and (2) what they will they remember me for? When I was a college student, in a laudable but misguided attempt to obtain an easy required science credit, I took Astronomy 101. Unbeknownst to me, the course was basically applied physics - in outer space! But, despite the 'academic trauma,' what I learned has stuck with me through the subsequent years and (now) decades. The takeaway, in short, “the brightest stars are under the most pressure” (as the intensity of light generated is proportional to the pressure of gravity acting on various gases). But MORE SIGNIFICANTLY (at least in theory), “the most ‘pressurized’ stellar events are not visible.” Rather, they are 'black holes,' also known as ‘singularities.’ Practically speaking, singularities, like effective leaders - even while unseen - exert influence on everything around them. And while leadership, like a black hole, can be hard to describe, you know it when it is present AND you know it when it’s missing! The most important test of leadership, and the highest level of leadership, is not what happens when the leader is present or SEEN, rather, it’s the measure of a leader’s influence in their absence - when they are UNSEEN. #LeadForLegacy
