LEADERSHIP PAIN.

Pain is an indication that something needs to change. Some people listen to pain; others ignore it; many try to withstand it. Typically, when the pain of staying the same exceeds the pain it takes to change, people and systems will change. Seasoned leaders know by experience that system change either comes from the top by choice, or from the bottom by force. (La Fayette Scales) So while it is in a leader’s best interest to listen and respond to organizational pain, 'avoidance' is often a reality of organizational life. The benefits of not changing, while temporary, can be intoxicating and seductive. Often there is a thin line between solution-finding (pain management or eradication) and status-quo maintenance (addiction). Leaders must constantly ask themselves, am I acting as a change agent or am I co-dependent. #LearnFromPain
