SYSTEM PROCESSES.

In software engineering, the main purpose of a circuit board is to send electronic signals to components of an electronic device. This allows signals to flow freely so each part of the device can communicate with all the others. In other words, the circuit board provides a 'process' to manage electronic inputs - converting them into computing outputs. But 'process' is also critical for leadership. Every leader has to be mindful of inputs, what goes into the organization, and outputs, how the organization demonstrates value (because this is how the leader is evaluated!). But between inputs and outputs, exist system processes. And while the content of any system are ‘inputs,’ the context of systems are ‘processes.' Put simply, "what goes in, may not come out, if organizational processes (how the institution is structured and how people work together in the system) are not optimal.” Business authors Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan, in their book, Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, describe three essential processes for organizational effectiveness: (1) people processes, (2) strategy processes, and (3) operations processes. Ineffective processes, regardless of high-quality inputs, will always lead to a diminishing rate of return on system-wide efforts. Leaders focused on increasing system-wide effectiveness understand the importance of both high-quality inputs and coherent processes. #LeadWithContext
