TRUST & TRANSPARENCY.

Transparency is truth in action. And in leadership (as well in life), trust is only extended to the limit of truth. ‘Truth,’ rightly conceived, includes what we explicitly state AND what we omit. When our children were young, my wife and I would often remind them that sometimes a lie just means “not telling everything.” You can learn a lot about leadership by raising children! This does not mean that leaders should abandon discretion. Truth sharing must be both courageous and considerate, because there are times when not everything can or should be shared (i.e., legally, morally or ethically). But leaders who increase organizational effectiveness understand that if you want to take institutional trust further, by degree, and farther, by a distance, it requires patterns of communication and interaction that are unmarred by calculation, manipulation and misdirection. This is the essence of transparency leading to increasing trust. #LeadWithTransparency
